E-Way E-Scooter Speed Hack

There is a lot of interest in removing the speed limit for E-Way e-scooters like the E500 and E600. As these e-scooters have different firmware to the massively popular Xiaomi M365 and Pro models, there are less speed hacks and general knowledge on forums about these models.

Downhill + Cruise Control

On reddit, user /u/aatu94 reports that by using cruise control and a suitable downhill section, it’s possible to trick the e-scooter to going over the in-built speed limit.

The steps for this hack are:

  • Setting the cruise control function to 1-2 seconds duration
  • Cresting a hill and then tapping the brakes (to set the scooter to neutral)
  • Gaining speed with gravity
  • Then hitting the accelerator at the desired speed, and wait for the cruise control to activate

This use reports that it only maintains the speed while the cruise control is active, after which you must find a new downhill section to reactivate it. Speeds of up to 32km/h have been achieved using this method.

Bluetooth Hack via an App

Another user, /u/jee82 reports that the Chinese version of the E-Way app, called “Kingsoft” allows the user to hack the speed limit. He reports achieving speeds of 40km/h – which is a somewhat on the fast side for an e-scooter. If you hit an unexpected bump at these speeds, you’ll have a nasty fall.

He links to a forum in Finish that contains some additional details, a link to the Android apk and an explainer video on Youtube. Please note that I have not verified the integrity of the apk file, so proceed at your own risk. Use Google translate if needed to understand the conversation in these links.

Note: when you open the app, you must click quickly on the Bluetooth icon before the next screen with the update loads. Then you can proceed to the setting with the speed limit. This is reportedly working with the E-Way E500.

It seems that if you only have an iOS device, you are out of luck for this particular hack. Android by it’s nature is more open than the Apple App Store, and allows side loading of apks which gives Android users more flexibility than iOS users.

Note that with e-scooter speeds – whether it’s from the factory or you’ve successfully de-restricted the speed limit – your weight will ultimately determine the acceleration and top speed of the e-scooter. The lighter you are, the faster you will go. It’s a nice motivation to lose weight if needed!

I hope you found this information on speed hacking E-Way scooters useful. As more information about these scooters becomes available, I will update this article with new information.

Happy riding!
