Best Electric Bike Brands for All Budgets

Welcome to a comprehensive guide to the best e-bike brands for all budgets – lower budget, mid-budget, and premium e-bike brands. All of the brands on this list are high quality, based on years of good reputations and solid online feedback.

As you will see, electric bikes are still relatively expensive, with many brands in the premium segment, and comparatively few in the mid and lower segment. I have focused only on quality brands that use high-quality components and have strong online reviews to steer you to trustworthy brands to consider for purchase.

Best Budget Priced E-Bike Brands

To compile this list of budget-priced, yet quality e-bike brands, my rough criteria were brands that sell e-bikes for generally less than about $2,000.

Think of these as the Hondas and Toyotas of the e-bike industry. They are reasonably priced and specced and though they don’t come with fancy extras like some of the other more premium e-bike brands below, they are more than capable of providing years of commuting transport and fun exercise on the weekend.

It’s possible to get electric bikes under this price, however, the quality varies, replacement parts are uncertain, as is the manufacturer’s guarantee and aftermarket support. Therefore, unless you are very good at DIY bike fixes or jury-rigging your own DIY battery packs, it’s far better to stick to known brands for most e-bike owners. When the battery pack eventually dies, you will be stuck with an electric bike that no longer works, unless you have enough knowledge to fabricate your own. Many bike repair shops will refuse to work with unknown brands also since the parts are unknown and there is no guarantee from a parts supplier like Bosch or Shimano.

One e-bike parts supplier that will often appear when searching for budget e-bikes, is the Chinese brand Bafang. They seem to have a decent reputation, especially considering the relatively low price of their batteries and drives, but personally, I would stick with more established brands, particularly reputable battery brands.

Fisher

I personally ride a Fisher as a daily commuter e-bike. It’s a basic, budget e-bike brand, which fulfills the requirements for a daily use commuter e-bike.

They often have models for sale through supermarket discounters like Aldi or Lidl, who use their bulk purchasing power to bring down the price of e-bikes and e-scooters.

Ancheer

Ancheer is a budget-priced, USA headquartered e-bike brand that has a very good reputation on Amazon and sells very well there. Most of their popular models have hundreds, if not thousands of positive reviews, and they have several models that sell for under $1,000.

Rad Power Bikes

Rad Power Bikes is an American e-bike brand, based on the direct-to-consumer business model. They claim to be the biggest e-bike brand in North America – quite a claim. The company started as a sole proprietorship, modifying individual bikes into e-bikes, before eventually transforming into a large, direct-to-consumer e-bike brand.

Aventon

Aventon was founded in 2013 in Los Angeles by Jianwei Zhang and Augusto Peraza III, who were college friends. They’re headquartered in Southern California, and their electric bikes are manufactured to a high standard in China. They offer high-quality electric bikes that also offer fantastic value for money.

Best Mid-Priced E-Bike Brands

Think of these as the Lexus, Volkswagens, and Land Rovers of the e-bike industry. They are mid-priced, with higher levels of features than the more barebones, basic e-bikes, and offer decent price to performance ratios. You generally won’t find luxury features like high-end saddles, shock absorbers, or carbon frames, but you’ll get quality parts from known suppliers, aftersales support, and peace of mind.

The brands in this tier usually sell electric bikes in the $2000-$4000 price range. Note that some brands like Cube straddle the mid and high tiers, as their price range is quite broad with several electric bike models in both price segments. Haibike is another brand that has multiple models in the mid and higher price tier.

VanMoof

VanMoof is an e-bike company based in Amsterdam. They sell electric bikes in over 40 countries. The styling is understated and minimalist and designed for everyday commuting. They include features like lights cleverly built into the bike frame, in-built front racks, and a companion app that can remotely lock down the e-bike in case of theft.

Cube

Cube fit into both the mid and higher price segments, so look below for the brand description.

Haibike

Haibike was founded in 1995, in Schweinfurt, Germany. The bikes were originally sold under the parent brand, Winora, and later became Haibike. Over the years, many innovations were introduced, such as the first truly off-road eMTB, which was an instant hit and a big moment in the history of the company.

Best Premium E-Bike Brands

Priced at $4000 and up, these are the Bentleys and Mercedes of the e-biking world. There are quite a few e-bike brands that fit in this category- which indicates that the e-bike market has room to grow in the mid and lower ends in particular.

Note that there is some blurring of the lines between mid and high-end e-bikes brands, as it’s possible to get some models cheaper depending on individual discounts or other circumstances. On average, however, most of the e-bike models under these brands officially sell for upwards of $4000.

Some brands like Stromer and Riese and Muller sell many models in their lineups closer to $10,000 or even more!

Stromer

Stromer is a Swiss eBike manufacturer that specializes in high speed, high power “S-Pedelec” e-bikes. They offer some of the most high-power, high-end eBikes anywhere in the world. They are active in 17 countries and their bikes have won numerous design awards. Their designs are sleek – you won’t see cables poking out or ugly motors or batteries hanging off the frame! Even the lights on their electric bikes are integrated right into the frame. This is a true luxury electrci bike brand for affluent consumers.

Riese and Muller

Riese & Müller is a German company founded in 1993. It is privately owned and was founded by Markus Riese and Heiko Müller. The company produces high-end eBikes for discerning customers, offering eye-catching, sleek designs, high performance, and high levels of customization demanded by high spending consumers. Riese & Müller focuses on quality, long service life, and comfort, all while keeping the eBike frame design sleek and elegant. Riese & Müller are a market leader of premium E-Bikes and folding bikes.

Urban Arrow

Urban Arrow was founded in 2010 in The Netherlands. It specializes in high-end, high-capacity family transport eBikes that seat multiple kids, and large cargo eBikes. Some of their models offer carrying capacity approaching that of smaller cars, so it’s perfect for families that want to replace shopping and school trips with a highly sustainable, healthy alternative to a car.

Specialized

Specialized are bicycle innovators since 1974. They actually built the first production mountain bike and helped spearhead the popularity of mountain bikes on trails. They are based in California, USA. They started building electric bikes in 2009. Their boast for their electric bike range is “It’s You, Only Faster.”

Lapierre

Gaston Lapierre established Lapierre as a bicycle business in Dijon, France in 1946. It is a long-established brand, over 70 years old, an early innovator in the world of mountain bikes, and has a history of success in the world-famous Tour de France. Many of their models offer thin, sleek frames that are difficult to tell whether it’s an electric bicycle or a sleek road bike!

Cube

Cube was founded in 1993, in Waldershof, Germany. It’s a small town in Northern Bavaria, where the company headquarters is still located today. Cube represents the best of “made in Germany” brand quality, meaning customers are guaranteed quality and performance over a long period of time. Cube regularly sponsors athletes at their headquarters, who put the bikes through their paces.

Trek

Trek was founded out of a barn in Wisconsin in 1976. Since then, it has grown to be one of the largest electric bike markers in the world. The aim was to bring high-quality craftmanship to a broader audience. In the 1970s, there were lower-end bikes and higher-priced European brands for sale in the United States, but there was no manufacturer of high-quality bikes at the mid and high-price points made in America. Trek changed that. Today, most Treks bikes are made outside the US, including in China, Netherlands, Germany, and Taiwan.

Canyon

Canyon is a premium eBike designer and manufacturer based in Koblenz, Germany. They offer a 6-year guarantee on their bikes, which is a huge selling point. Another unusual point about Canyon is their direct-to-consumer model, which cuts out the middlemen in the sales process, which in theory reduces the final price and allows you to get a high-quality eBike at a lower price versus their competitors.

Cannondale

Cannondale was founded in Connecticut, USA in 1971. They were early pioneers in the use of aluminum and carbon-fibre manufacturing while other bike makers used steel.

Today, Cannondale offers an array of electric bikes for all uses – e-mountain bikes, high speed bikes, urban bikes, Touring & Hybrid, and of course road bikes. Their electric bikes retail for up to $10,000 for the most demanding of cyclists!

Haibike

Haibike was founded in 1995, in Schweinfurt, Germany. Their bikes were originally sold under the name of their parent, Winora, but later became Haibike. They claim to have invented the forefather of all eMTBs the Haibike eQ XDURO, a truly off-road capable eMTB.
